WIND’S GENERAL CLARK CALLS FOR REINFORCEMENTS
'I Need Your Help to save Wind Jobs'
General and Former NATO Supreme Allied Commander Wesley K. Clark, December 14, 2011 (GrassRoots/Amercian Wind Energy Association)
"Wind energy is a national security business for America. That's why I'm writing to ask that you…[e-mail Congress] to ask them to include an extension of the Wind Energy Production Tax Credit in the tax bill that they’re finalizing right now.
"We’ve talked for years about having energy independence, but it’s a hard thing to do. It takes years to develop the technology, build the manufacturing base, invest the capital, and recover those costs. With wind power, we have a technology that has truly “arrived.” Costs have come down 90% and wind power has contributed over a third of all new U.S. power capacity over the last four years, creating thousands of good-paying jobs in the process. But in order to make sure Congress doesn’t turn their back on this technology, they need to hear from you."

"As our veterans return home from Iraq and Afghanistan, the wind industry provides great job opportunities for them – to put their engineering, mechanical skills, self-discipline and physical fitness to work, and to build a domestic energy base for our society as well. Wind industry jobs that will not be there without the PTC.
"If Congress does not extend the PTC, the wind industry’s work force will be cut in half, losing 37,000 jobs. But you can help convince Congress to extend the credit, so the wind industry can create and save 54,000 jobs, and stay on track to supporting 500,000 jobs and providing 20% of America’s electricity within the next two decades…The content of the tax bill is being negotiated right now…Thank you for taking a stand…"
