In contradiction to the White House denial of climate change, its effects are putting nearly half of US military sites at risk. Drought, wind and flooding that occurs due to reasons other than storms topped the list of natural disasters that endanger 1,700 military sites worldwide, from large bases to outposts, according to the Department of Defense’s Climate-Related Risk to DoD Infrastructure Initial Vulnerability Assessment Survey. It reported that changes in the climate have the potential to shape the environment in which the military operates and the missions it is required to do. It concluded that allowing extreme weather to make critical facilities unusable or to impose costly or manpower-intensive workarounds is unacceptable. The conclusions of the survey, which studied over 3,500 U.S. military installations around the world, contradict the White House’s doubt of mainstream scientific findings about climate change. It found airfields, energy infrastructure, and water systems most at risk. click here for more
