Hey New Energy: Opportunity is knocking!
Duke Energy seeks more green power; Company calls for bids to buy electricity made from renewable sources

WHO
Duke Energy Corp., Carolinas/ Ellen Ruff, president; NC GreenPower, a nonprofit program created by the N.C. Utilities Commission to incentivize the use of renewables.

WHAT
Duke, the Carolinas' largest utility, is seeking electricity produced from wind, solar and other renewable energy sources.
WHEN
The call is immediate, for sources supplied by 2012. It anticipates a 2100 megawatt (10%) increased need by 2011.
WHERE
Duke Energy Carolinas is based in Charlotte.

WHY
The N.C. General Assembly is considering a requirement of 5% renewables standard for the state power supply, in keeping with similar and more stringent standards in states across the country.
Among the 60 renewables suppliers to NC Greenpower: an Asheville landfill run by Enerdyne Power systems which captures and burns methane, providing electricity for 500 homes, hydroelectric projects and 53 solar producers
