THEY’VE GOT LAND, LOTS OF LAND
Sequestration: An idea that would be wonderful if we were certain it was safe.
Wyoming has vast CO2 sequestration capability

WHO
Carl Bauer, director of the National Energy Technology Laboratory, and Mike Godec, of Advanced Resources International, Inc., speaking at University of Wyoming School of Energy Resources symposium -- "CO2 Sequestration: Opportunities for Wyoming" (sponsored by the Western Research Institute).
WHAT
Advocating the potential for the storing (sequestration) of the gaseous carbon dioxide which is the environmentally devastating by-product of burning coal to generate electricity.
WHEN
WHERE
The Powder River Basin's coal fields are an ideal place to store up to 13.6 billion metric tons of CO2, according to Godec.

WHY
Sequestration protects the atmosphere from harm by the greenhouse gas by-product of generating electricity by burning coal, an enormous natural resource in Wyoming. The Wyoming Enhanced Oil Recovery Institute says 4.15 billion barrels of oil can be recovered in Wyoming by pumping the carbon dioxide gas into old oil wells, as well as 19.6 trillion cubic feet of methane gas.
QUOTES
“Some speakers said Wyoming's developed oil and gas industries should help provide that infrastructure, while others said that infrastructure might stifle efforts to demonstrate sequestration in areas without gas or oil.”
