WHAT
A report on U.S. greenhouse gas emissions finding that CO2 emissions rose 18% nationally. U.S. Public Interest Research Group is supporting legislation to cut emissions to 80 percent below 1990 levels by 2050.

WHERE
United States. The report gives state by state findings:
Texas = highest increase. Florida 2nd, North Carolina 3rd, Georgia 4th. Nevada = highest % growth, Arizona 2nd, New Hampshire 3rd, South Carolina 4th. Only Delaware, Massachusetts and D.C. reduced.

WHY
Power generation emissions grew 28%, transportation grew 23%

"Global warming pollution is skyrocketing in the United States just as scientists are sounding alarms that we must rapidly reduce pollution to protect future generations," said Emily Figdor, director of the Washington, D.C.,-based U.S. Public Interest Research Group.
