BRIT CALLS NEW ENERGY GOOD FOR BUSINESS

Beckett is 100% correct. New reports released this week showed no slowing in energy consumption and BIG increases in CO2 production, with China leading the way.

Beckett says energy efficiency good for business
May 22, 2007 (AFP via Yahoo News)

    WHO
    British Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett

    WHAT
Beckett emphasized the business value of emission-reducing energy efficiency measures in remarks urging developed countries to get involved in China’s drive to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

    WHEN
    Beckett’s comments came May 22.

    WHERE
Beckett’s comments were made at an environmental forum in Tokyo

    WHY
    - Beckett predicted there would be money made by being the first to design, create and implement policy and brand energy-efficient, GHG emission-reducing ideas.
    - Beckett’s comments were based on observations made during a 6-day tour of China preceding the forum in Tokyo. Her remarks were especially relevant because Japan’s largest commercial partner is China and Japan’s economy is now hungrily expanding, following a drastic stagflation in the 1990s.

    QUOTES
    - Beckett: “Britain and Japan can together take the lead in the transition to a low-carbon energy efficient world economy…In doing that we will not only help the world overcome the climate threat, it's also the only way for us to remain competitive…"
    - Beckett: "Japanese businesses have particular concerns over economic competition with China…[but] much more to lose if China does not make the transition to a low-carbon economy…We all have interests in supporting China in meeting its targets on energy efficiency. An investment in China's energy efficiency is an investment in our own energy security…"
