WHAT
World energy consumption is projected to grow 57% by 2030, according to the EIA’s "International Energy Outlook 2007."
WHEN
Rising prices will restrain demand for liquid fuels after 2015: 38% of energy in 2004, 34% in 2030. Liquid fuel consumption in 2030: 118 million barrels/day.
Nuclear: 368 gigawatts, 2004; 481 gigawatts, 2030.
WHERE
Highest demand growth in non-Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries, especially Asia.
WHY
Half of growth: US, China, India
21 million barrels/day increased production by Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), 6 million barrels/day by non-OPEC countries.
Fastest growing energy use: coal, at 2.2%/year, because it is abundant in the countries that will need energy most (US, China, India).

QUOTES
“Energy-related carbon dioxide emissions are projected to rise from 26.9 billion metric tons in 2004 to 33.9 billion metric tons in 2015 and 42.9 billion metric tons in 2030.
Because of the expectation that non-OECD countries will rely on fossil fuels to supply much of their future energy demand growth, carbon dioxide emissions from them are projected by 2030 to exceed those from the OECD by 57 percent.”
