April 26, 2007 (Reuters via CNN)
WHO
OptiSolar Farms Canada Inc., a subsidiary of Hayward, California-based OptiSolar Inc., and the government of the Canadian province of Ontario

WHAT
North America’s biggest solar power station, 40 megawatts. The largest U.S. solar installation is 15 megawatts.
WHEN
The installation is scheduled for completion in 2010.
WHERE
Near Sarnia in southwestern Ontario. (The 15 megawatt U.S. project is at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada.)
WHY
At full capacity, the station will supply 40 megawatts of electricity, power enough for 15,000 homes.
Ontario Power Authority has a 20-year contract to buy the generated electricity for the province’s grid. Its 42 Canadian cents/kilowatt-hour rate makes the project viable.
The solar installation will occupy 365 hectares (902 acres). It will have one million panels, some 7 meters (23 feet) off the ground.

QUOTES
Peter Carrie, OptiSolar Farms Canada: "This is certainly the most exciting thing I've ever worked on…We want to take solar mainstream."
