TXU Wholesale Adds to Wind Energy Portfolio With 209-MW Deal; Second Airtricity Contract Increases Renewable Leader’s Purchases to 914-MW

WHAT
Airtricity’s Roscoe Wind Farm will prove 209 megawatts of wind-generated electricity to TXU for the next 5 years.
WHEN
Announcement of contract May 15. The Roscoe Wind Farm is scheduled to be operational by the end of 2007.
WHERE
TXU is based in Dallas, Texas. Airtricity is based in Dublin, Ireland. The Roscoe Wind Farm is 45 miles southwest of Abilene in western Texas. The Forest Creek Wind Farm 25 miles southeast of Big Spring, Texas.
WHY
- The windfarm has will 209 1 megawatt Mitsubishi 1000A turbines. It will be 30,000 acres, in parts of 3 counties, will serve 60,000 homes and will save 375,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions.
- This deal gives TXU 914 megawatts of (renewable) wind energy from 965 turbines. (TXU also gets 125 megawatts from Airtricity’s Forest Creek Wind Farm.
