Flexcar, a business that promotes the sharing of autos, and Terrapass, a business that sells carbon offsets, will partner to form a “Green Membership” to provide hybrid vehicles for sharing reduced-carbon transportation.

WHY
- Flexcar charges a $35/year fee. Its car-sharing service has removed thousands of vehicles from the roads and eliminated millions of tons of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The Green Membership, which offsets one ton of GHG emissions annually, will cost an extra $9.95/year.
- How Flexcar’s “point-click-drive” system works: In cities across the US, vehicles are parked in strategic locations. Members reserve a vehicle online or by phone. The membership card accesses the vehicle. Members make their roundtrip, at a $9/hour or $60/day rate (which includes gas, insurance, 150 miles, maintenance, parking and 24-7 emergency service), and return the vehicle.
- Flexcar benefit: 40% reduction in vehicle miles traveled, 40% better mileage, 15 cars removed from street for each shared car
- Terrapass will apply the money to third party-certified clean energy projects.
