EASYJET EASING CO2
Never did a story from Pravda before. Also have tended to avoid ragging on the airlines. But this is a possible solution.

June 15, 2007 (AP via Pravda)
WHO
easyJet, CEO Andy Harrison

WHAT
The British low-cost airline announces the purchase of an “ecoJet” which promises to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 50%.
WHEN
Manufacturers will deliver the new jet by 2015.
WHERE
UK

WHY
- The plane will 1. fly at lower speeds, 2. be made of lighter materials, 3. have rear rotors to enhance fuel efficiency, cutting CO2 by 50% and N2 by 75%. The new jet will also be quieter.
- Aviation makes 2% of world GHGs and there is much pressure on it to improve: British Airways offers offsets. Virgin Atlantic is investing in new biofuels. Ryanair uses Boeing 737-800s, which have cut emissions and fuel consumption by 50% since 2000.
QUOTES
Harrison: "This is not "Star Trek". This is the future…If it were to be made available today, we would order hundreds of them for fleet replacement."
