Mobile Phone Charger Powered By Wind
June 15, 2007 (UPI)
WHO
Orange UK (Hattie Evans, head of sponsorship), Shashank Priya, professor, University of Texas at Arlington,

WHAT
The Orange Mobile Wind Charger is a new cell phone charger designed to be run on wind energy.
WHEN
Device not yet available commercially. Will be demo’d June 22-24.
WHERE
The demo is set for the Glastonbury Festival in the UK’s Somerset County.
Orange UK is based in Bristol, UK.
WHY
The phone is based on research by Priya. The winds turbine is 150 grams, perfect for the knapsack carried to an outdoor, tent-city festival like Glanstonbury. The turbine has a mounting bracket for the tent.
A wind-charged phone would be preferable to a solar-charged phone at the outdoor Glastonbury Festival because it is not atypically beset by clouds, rain and mud.

QUOTES
Evans: "As official communications partner of Glastonbury Festival, it is important that we continue to innovate and demonstrate how mobile technology can make festival life a little bit easier while respecting Glastonbury's commitment to being environmentally aware…It is a small way that festival goers can enjoy their mobile phones when and where they need them while they are at the festival."
