GE: BIGGEST WIND IN TURKEY
Its kind of ironic -- Turkey has little oil, but lots of wind potential. Also lots of solar potential. Could the balance of Middle East power shift there?
GE Energy’s wind turbines selected for Turkey’s largest wind park
Clare Watson, July 4, 2007 (Energy Business Review)
WHO
GE Energy (Victor Abate, president of renewables), Zorlu Enerji Elektrik Uretim,

WHAT
GE Energy has been picked by Zorlu Elektrik to provide 52 turbines for a 130 megawatt wind farm in Turkey.
WHEN
2006: Turkey had 65 megawatts wind capacity. 2007: Turkey had 84 megawatts.
New turbines shipping March 2008.
WHERE
Bahce, 40 kilometers from Osmaniye province, Turkey.
Turbines manufactured at GE facilities in Salzbergen, Germany and Noblejas, Spain.

WHY
The new wind park doubles Turkey’s installed wind capacity.
52 2.5xl turbines (w/increased energy output and increased efficiency) = 130 megawatt capacity = 500 million kilowatt-hours/year electricity. New rotor diameter: 100 meters, 12 meters bigger, = biggest onshore GE turbine.
QUOTES
Abate: "The 2.5xl has been designed to meet the immediate requirements of the EU, where the lack of available land constrains the size of projects…"
