    GE GOES TO WASTE

A source of renewable energy for anyplace that has trash. Does that leave anybody out?

    GE Invests In Landfill Energy
    July 18, 2007 (UPI)

    WHO
GE Energy Financial Services (GEFS), Scholl Canyon Landfill Gas Corp. (SGLGC)
    The Scholl Canyon landfill.

    WHAT
GEFS will acquire 90% of the SGLGC landfill gas project, expanding its renewable resources.

    WHEN
GEFS has been helping finance the project since 2002 with loans.

    WHERE
The Scholl Canyon Landfill Gas Corp. project is in Glendale, CA.

    WHY
    - The Scholl Canyon landfill gas project is one of the largest in the U.S. The landfill emits methane, GHG possibly 20 times more harmful to the ozone than carbon dioxide. Great greenhouse gas (GHG) summary
    - The methane is pipelined to the 250 megawatt Grayson Power Plant where it reported supplies energy for 10,000 homes.
    - This project is estimated to prevent 615,000 tons of GHGs.
    - SCLGC, an affiliate of Palmer Capital Corp., will continue to operate the landfill project.
methane is 9% of anthropogenic GHG emissions -- but it is perhaps 20 times more potent than CO2 so trapping and using methane is a great restraint on climate change. (click to enlarge)

    QUOTES
Kevin Walsh, managing director/renewable energy, GE Energy Financial Services: "This acquisition draws upon our expertise in both renewable energy technology and project finance to help us diversify our renewable energy footprint and achieve our goal of investing $4 billion by 2010 in renewable energy…"
