WHAT
Harper announced federal funding for a tide energy project in Nova Scotia
WHEN
The 1st turbine is expected in 2009. A 2-year test period will follow.
WHERE
Bay of Fundy, the Canadian province of Nova Scotia
Open Hydro is based in Dublin, Ireland

WHY
NSP will head the project. Open Hydro will provide the technology.
NSP’s Langille said tide energy is developmentally where wind energy was 20 years ago.
The Bay of Fundy project will be the largest in the world to use the Open Hydro technology. The 1st one megawatt turbine will cost $12 million, 1/3 coming from Canadian federal funds. One megawatt is estimated to power 300 homes.
