WHAT
Harbert and Deming signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) agreeing to work together to improve energy efficiency in China’s industrial sector.
WHEN
MOU finalized during September 9 thru 16 China-US Energy Policy Dialogue and signed over the weekend.
WHERE
This 3rd China-US Energy Policy Dialogue was held in San Francisco, CA
WHY
- China’s industrial sector uses 70% of the energy the country consumes.
- US and Chinese teams will do joint audits on up to 12 facilities among China’s “Top 1000 Energy Enterprises.” DOE will provide audit tools and train the Chinese in auditing, then do comparisons to determine best practices. DOE training will be on US laws, policies, procedures, technologies and best practices and include efficiency info on US-made boilers, fired heaters and combined heat and power units.
- The audit results may generate sales of US efficiency equipment/services to China, reducing Chinese consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
- This MOU follows the US-China Strategic Economic Dialogue, the US-China Oil and Gas Industry Forum, the Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum and the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor, all efforts to increase cooperation on energy efficiency, climate change mitigation and clean tech trade facilitation.
