WHAT
As part of the Energy Efficient Homes Initiative, Rebuild and MPA rehab’ed the home of a low income Billings, Mont., woman to cut her expenses by saving energy through efficiencies.
WHEN
The “Rebuild” program began in 1973.
WHERE
National “Rebuild” began in Midland, Texas. It will renovate 10,000 US homes this year, cutting energy consumption and costs as much as 30%. The Yellowstone “Rebuild” will do 6 homes this year.
WHY
- The homeowner of the highlighted project is a grandmother helping to raise a 10-year old grandson, physically and financially unable to make the improvements herself.
- The improvements: new weather-stripping and insulation, light fixtures with compact fluorescent lights, energy-efficient windows, exterior and interior painting and electrical work.
- Rebuilding Together is the largest organization of its kind in the country: 250 affiliates, 1879 communities, 270,000 volunteers.
