    AMERICANS WANT NEW ENERGY…

This is one of the many polls NewEnergyNews would use to substantiate its frequent claim that Americans' national leaders are failing them by failing to legislate on behalf of New Energy.

Nearly Nine in 10 Agree U.S. Should Pursue Renewable Energy Sources; 95 Percent Blame Increasing Oil Prices for Rising Cost of Food
October 15, 2007 (BusinessWire via Yahoo Finance)

    WHO
Harris Interactive, the Clean Fuels Development Coalition (CFDC) (Doug Durante, executive director)

This is the energy Americans want. (click to enlarge)

    WHAT
88% of US adults agree “the U.S. should pursue renewable energy sources.”

    WHEN
    Poll conducted September 21-25.

    WHERE
The poll was national in scope.

    WHY
    - 72% of US adults think increased oil prices are causing increased food prices.
    - 35% of US adults think increased ethanol production has driven food prices up.
    - 78% believe the use of ethanol would decrease US dependence on foreign oil.
    - Poll commissioned by CFDC.
    - CFDC sponsored a Cellulosic Ethanol Summit in Washington, D.C., October 15 – 17.

    QUOTES
Durante, CFDC: “This poll suggests that American consumers are aware of our severe dependence on foreign oil…We have reached a crossroads in the energy market, and consumers plainly want an alternative to imported oil. Homegrown, renewable fuels are clearly a viable answer.”
