    GE ENERGY INKS DEAL TO BUILD 333 TURBINES

    There are those in the New Energy community who do not grasp the potential of wind energy to meet its industry goal of providing 30% ot US electricity by 2030. Deals like this may help drive the enormity of the potential home.

    GE Energy Wins $650 Million Wind Turbine Contract With Noble Environment Power

    WHO
    General Electric Energy L.L.C, Noble Environment Power L.L.C

    GE Energy is the biggest turbine manufacturer in the US.

    WHAT
    Noble has contracted with GE for the purchase of 333 GE 1.5 megawatt wind turbines at a price of $650 million.

    WHEN
    The contract calls for the turbines to ship in 2009 and Noble expects to install them by the end of that year.

    WHERE
    - Most of the contracted turbines will be installed in Texas and California.
    - Noble is based in Essex, Conn. GE is based in Atlanta.

    WHY
    - The purchase amounts to almost 500 megawatts of electricity capacity.
    - This is the 4th contract between Noble and GE in the last 3 years, for a total of 877 turbines at a cost of $1.5 billion.
    - 1 megawatt serves 778 homes (Department of Energy)
