(1) Every 5 mph over 60 costs 20 cents/gallon. Excessive acceleration/braking may lower mileage 33%.
(2) Proper insulation can save $225/year in heating and cooling.
(3) ENERGY STAR appliances cut power costs 30%.
(4) Programmable thermostats that selectively heat/cool only rooms in use cut consumption (and costs) 10%.
(5) Compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) give the same light as traditional bulbs with 1/3 the energy because they generate 70% less heat. For the same reason, they last 10 times longer and sve $50/bulb.
(6) Tuned up cars improve mileage 4%, about $80/year.
(7) Properly inflated tires improve mileage 3.3%, about $60/year.
(8) Look for ENERGY STAR electronics and turn them off when not in use.
(9) Clean heating/cooling system air filters.
(10) Turn the lights off!
