So how about the battery electric vehicle (BEV)? Not everybody has heard yet how much of a difference a BEV can make. For one thing, even plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) will eliminate a huge portion of the oil the nation burns. For another thing, even when a vehicle runs on electricity from a coal-fired grid, its much more efficient drive train significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions. And, finally, BEV batteries will eventually provide storage for variable solar- and wind-generated electricity, making a New Energy-powered grid more possible.
