HOLIDAY VIDEO: LET FREEDOM RING, IT’S INDEPENDENCE DAY
Here’s the thing: The world has to transition to a new way of doing energy but there are people with vested interests in the Old Energies who refuse to see how urgent the need for that transition really is.
The people do. Every substantial poll shows that people in the U.S. and around the world want New Energy, even if they have to pay more for it, by substantial majorities.
This song is ostensibly about a domestic matter between a drunken man with power and an oppressed woman. But its chorus makes clear that it can also be understood as being about any powerful force so drunk on its own power that it leaves its oppressor no other option than a violent rebellion.
In the song’s metaphor, the child is orphaned. In 1776, the rebellion became a reality and the orphan became this great nation.
In the modern metaphor, those Old Energy vested interests are so drunk on their own power that they fail to see (or care about?) the dreadful destruction they are leaving in their wake, from the hills of West Virginia to the Gulf of Mexico to Fukushima, Japan.
They fail to see that they are driving the people of this orphan nation to action. They people get, whether the drunken oppressors do or not, that no matter the challenges of New Energy, they are not worse than the destructiveness of Old Energy. And they understand that the transition to New Energy will bring with it benefits like independence from bullies with oil resources and the rejuvenation of domestic economies everywhere and the redemption of this world’s failing air, water and habitat.
One way or another, sooner or later, a New Energy economy built on the sun and wind and deep heat and flowing waters of this good earth will emerge. The question is, will it create havoc and leave behind an “orphan economy” or will the vested interests hear the clarion call for New Energy now ringing like liberty bells across the land and around the globe and respond before it is too late?
“…Let freedom ring,
Let the white dove sing,
Let the whole world know that today is a day of reckoning.
Let the weak be strong,
Let the right be wrong,
Roll the stone away, let the guilty pay, it’s Independence Day…”
