INDONESIA MOVES ON BIG SUN
The Government Cooperates with SHARP to Develop Big Scale PLTS
Kamis, 9 Maret 2012 (Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Indonesia)
"The government would build big scale solar power plant (PLTS) reaching 100 Megawatt (MW). To make it realize, the government through Directorate General of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (Ditjen EBTKE) cooperate Japanese electronics company, Sharp Corporation. Director General of EBTKE, Kardaya Warnika stated that after the signing of MoU between Ditjen EBTKE and Sharp, the next step is doing feasibility study…
"The feasibility study is meant to know how big the intensity of solar heat in Bali Island, the duration and also market potency…As initial step, while waiting for the result of feasibility study for capacity of 100 MW, Sharp would also develop solar plant in small capacity 1 to two megawatt…Kardaya also explained that the target of the project with Sharp is big scale solar power plant not the small scale such as Solar Home System (SHS) and possibly government would also promote the utilization of solar energy in Jakarta."

"Related to investment, he stated that for capacity per 1 megawatt needs US $ 2, 5 – US$ 3 million, while the needed land per 1 megawatt needs 2 hectare…After Sharp having plants in Indonesia, the government would also persuade the company to have supporting manufacturer to develop the project in Indonesia…Further, Kardaya stated that the off taker of solar energy developed by Sharp is PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN persero) even though PLN has already had PLTS development program in 100 islands…
"Meanwhile for electricity sale price for PLN, the government did not yet decide the mechanism…To the future, Kardaya stated that the government target is minimizing the development of oil-fueled power plants and also developing renewable energy power plant in areas having big electricity needs but having small energy resources…"
