France awards offshore wind contracts

“…[An] EDF-led consortium won three of the tenders for offshore wind sites. It will install total of 1500MW, at the Saint-Nazaire, Courseulles-sur-Mer and Fecamp sites.
“The consortium includes state-owned utility EDF Energies Nouvelles, Danish energy developer DONG Energy, Nass&Wind Offshore and wpd Offshore. Alstom will supply the turbines and is to open four manufacturing plants at Cherbourg and Saint Nazaire to fabricate its Haliadad 150 turbine.”
“A fourth contract was awarded to the consortium led by Iberdrola and EOLE-RES to install a 500MW wind farm at Saint-Brieuc (Côtes-d’Armor). Areva, which is to supply 100 5MW (M5000) turbines, will install two manufacturing facilities at Le Havre to produce turbines and blades.
“France has said it will install 6GW of offshore wind in a bid to source 23% of its energy requirement from renewable energy sources by 2020…”
