EU’S AFFORDABLE NEW ENERGY OPPORTUNITY
Study: Low cost measures could cut EU emissions 40 per cent by 2030; Potsdam Institute research suggests economic cost of meeting ambitious climate change targets would be less than 0.7 per cent of GDP

“…[A] major new study has revealed the bloc could deliver deep cuts in greenhouse gas emissions through the 2020s at a negligible cost to the economy…[Beyond 2020 — Strategies and Costs for Transforming the European Energy System] concluded that cutting emissions 40 per cent against 1990 levels by 2030 would be likely to cost less than an additional 0.7 per cent of economic activity…[I]t remains uncertain as to whether or not member states will opt to extend current targets for the use of renewable energy and energy efficiency measures through to 2030 or back UK calls for such technology-specific targets to be shelved…The new report argues that more ambitious emissions targets of up to 40 per cent can be met using existing and cost-effective technologies…” click here for more
