GLOBAL BUILDING (AND EFFICIENCY OPPORTUNITIES) TO BOOM

Global Building Stock Database; Commercial and Residential Building Floor Space by Country and Building Type: 2013-2023

    2Q 2014 (Navigant Research)

“Commercial, residential, and industrial buildings are responsible for 47% of global greenhouse gas emissions and 49% of the world’s energy consumption. Much of this energy is consumed needlessly and can be reduced…Knowledge of the size and composition of the global building stock is essential for understanding the built environment and the potential market for new energy efficiency technologies…Over the next 10 years, the global building stock will continue to grow…[especially due to] the continuing trend of urbanization worldwide…Further economic growth, particularly in developing countries, will also bolster demand for more building space to support a rising middle class…[A]ll regions will see considerable growth…[but] Asia Pacific will account for the majority of new additions. Navigant Research forecasts that the global building stock will grow from 138.2 billion m2 in 2013 to 171.3 billion m2 in 2023…” click here for more
