World Bank Says Africa $5 Billion Isn't for Coal Projects

“The World Bank said the $5 billion pledged for electricity generation in Africa…is for wind, geothermal, gas and hydro power, and doesn’t include any financing for coal projects…[T]he money is for new technical and financial support for energy projects in six African countries -- Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Nigeria, and Tanzania…World Bank President Jim Yong Kim said…Africa deserves to have power [but is experiencing] ‘almost energy apartheid,’ where two-thirds of the population lacks access to power…The World Bank will try to invest…in clean energy, with a focus on hydroelectric, solar, geothermal and wind…[while respecting] Africans’ demand for access…where there are no feasible alternatives…” click here for more
