TROUBLE AHEAD FOR TEXAS WIND
Texas’ shortsighted wind energy policy

“Texas is a wind energy juggernaut….[but Republican state Sen. Troy Fraser’s SB 931 would] kill a forward-looking state energy policy that has made Texas the nation’s wind energy epicenter…The bill, now on its way to the House, would repeal the state’s Renewable Portfolio Standard that requires utilities to produce increasing portions of their power from renewable energy sources such as the sun and the wind…Passage of Fraser’s measure would toss wind energy development into economic uncertainty and all but crater the state’s budding solar power industry. Yet, Fraser insists the renewables industry has grown up and needs to give up its training wheels…I will accept that argument the day the oil and gas industry gives up its incentives, which overwhelm ‘assistance’ to renewables...[This bill] is a sop to aiding the [currently price- challenged] oil and gas industry by cutting off wind and solar power at the knees…” click here for more
