New NREL study details US rooftop solar PV potential at 1,118GW plus

“The technical installed solar capacity potential of U.S. rooftops is 1,118 GW and the annual generation potential is 1,432 TWh, according to “Rooftop Solar Photovoltaic [PV] Technical Potential in the United States” from the Energy Department…That amount of installed capacity roughly matches the current national installed electricity generating capacity. The generation potential is 39% of current U.S. electricity sales… The new numbers almost double the 664 GW of installed capacity and 800 TWh of generation potential in NREL’s 2008 analysis…The bigger numbers come from an assumed higher module efficiency of 16%, improved estimates of building suitability, higher estimates of the total number of buildings, and improvements in PV performance simulation tools…” click here for more
