Only Global Collaboration Can Beat Climate Change
What’s the Greatest Threat to Action on Climate Change? Nationalism; It’s going to take global solidarity to avoid a climate-change doomsday.

“…[The ‘rivalry’ scenario of Energy Perspectives 2016, from Statoil, the second-biggest producer of natural gas in Europe after Russia’s Gazprom, depicts] a realistically downbeat future in which international strife and geopolitical competition discourage significant cooperation in the climate field…In this scenario, there is growing disagreement about the rules of the game and a decreasing ability to manage crises in the political, economic, and environmental arenas…In such a future, Statoil suggests, the major powers would prove to be far more concerned with satisfying their own economic and energy requirements than pursuing collaborative efforts aimed at slowing the pace of climate change…[But ‘rivalry’ is only one of several scenarios…[To avoid it, climate] activists will have to devote at least as much of their energy and attention to the international political arena as to the technology sector.
