Wind Delivers Free Electricity In Germany
There Was So Much Wind Power In Germany This Weekend, Consumers Got Free Energy
Jesper Starn, October 30, 2017 (Climate Changed via Bloomberg News)
“A stormy weekend led to free electricity in Germany as wind generation reached a record…Power prices turned negative as wind output reached 39,409 megawatts…[the] equivalent to the output of about 40 nuclear reactors. To keep the grid supply and demand in balance, negative prices encourage producers to either shut power stations or else pay consumers to take the extra electricity off the network…[Germany’s wind was part of a spike in] wind power sources from 28 countries in the European Union…[that set a new record by providing] 24.6% of total electricity — enough to power 197 million European households…[There are] 153.7 Gigawatts of wind power capacity installed in the EU (including the largest offshore wind farm off the coast of Kent)…[and] the region is on its way to becoming a major force for renewable energy…[O]ffshore wind energy is now cheaper than nuclear energy in the UK, and countries across Europe receive significant portions of energy from wind…” click here for more
